National ID card hacked in 12 Minutes!!

Posted by chromeneo on Thursday 6 August 09

Okay, I haven’t posted for a while but this has to be the very crux of the ID card system! The fact that it will make ID fraud much easier. The Daily Mail has ran a item showing how the ID card for foreign nationals can be copied, cloned and details changed in 12 minutes!

This is what people who have opposed the National ID card scheme have said all along, that this scheme will make ID fraud EASIER!  This card contains a chip which holds upto 50 items of personal data on you, here are some of them:

  • Name
  • Address plus previous addresses
  • Date of Birth
  • National Insurance Number
  • Drving Licence number
  • Fingerprints details
  • Digital Photograph
  • Immigration details (foreign national card)
  • Benefit details

This is just the start of what data they are planning to store.

When the government were approached by the Daily Mail all they said was

‘The identity card includes a number of design and security features that are extremely difficult to replicate.
‘We remain confident that the identity card is one of the most secure of its kind, fully meeting rigorous international standards.’

They still are deluded that this scheme is secure!! The only way to stop this ID car scheme going ahead is to vote this government out! Other parties have said that they will scrap the scheme and we only have thier word for it but I would rather take my chances with that than the full force of Labour going ahead with this scheme.

RESIST the ID Card scheme and this government

DNA and the government

Posted by chromeneo on Thursday 7 May 09

So the government has responded to the European Court of Human Rights decree that holding DNA profiles on innocent people was illegal. They have decided that if your are not charged or convicted they will STILL keep your DNA for 6 years!! and (get this!) 12 years if you were arrested in relation to a sexual or violent offence!!!!! So what do the government really mean by innocent?? Mark Thomas put it well on the BBC. He said that the government have created a new, blurry idea of innocent in that if you are arrested and then not charged you are innocentISH!!!
And now Harriet Harman is saying that if we disagree with these government plans then we are against justice!!! THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!  We just believe in liberty, and in justice as well.  But I am against the blanket surveilence and the onslaught from the government to categorize, track and tag everyone in this country!
If you are innocent and not charged or convicted then you should not have any records kepts by the police, no fingerprints or DNA.  The Scottish system is a little better but it still holds the DNA for upto 6 years.

The only way forward is for a government (certainly not this one!) to return our civil liberties and stop this nonsense.

At last, some good news, (sort of)

Posted by chromeneo on Monday 23 March 09

This is about the news that the Jospeh Rowntree Reform Trust have said that some databases are illegal and many more threaten our privacy and liberties.  This should be a wake up call to this government that what it has been doing in regards to keeping personal data is wrong both legally and ethically. Will they listen?  Well already they have tried to shrug off this report saying that there is no substantive evidence for these claims.  I think this really shows that the government do not care what other people say, they will go ahead and carry on killing off civil liberties and reducing privacy!!! They are really deluded to keep insisting it will fight terrorism and crime! It won’t! If they really want to fight crime then they need to invest more money in the police force – in more police officers to do proper investigation and police work rather than relying on blanket, privacy destroying, surveillance and databases.

The tide against the erosion of  civil liberties is starting to change and pick up pace, first there was the case about holding DNA records of innocent people is illegal, then there was the report from senior doctors who spoke out against the National Health Database.

The bad news is the worrying number of daabases that are already in place which contain very private and personal data on us all and the complete lack of data security.  Your data can be accessed by thousands of civil servants some of which are TEMPS!!!!  The chances of your data leaking out is very high wether through it being lost or by someone being bribed. The other bad news is that this government will not do anything about this and will still continue to hold data ILLEGALLY!!!

You can do something about this by joining one of the many civil liberties campaign groups.

New Government Anti-terror tack threatens Freedom of speech and Democracy

Posted by chromeneo on Monday 16 February 09

The Government have announced a new tack in the fight against Terroism.  They are now going to combat muslims who speak out against western democracy, even those who are within the law!  Now I must say that I do not subscribe to their philosophy BUT this is a free country and a democracy and the foundation of which is freedom of speech!

Freedom of speech is so important to democracy giving all of its citizens the right to disagree and to speak out about anything.  This also means that we must allow opinions that some people may find intolerable.  If we allow the Government to come down on people in this way then where will they stop? Will they go after us bloggers who speak out against the Government?  This is already happening in China, Iran, Korea, Zimbabwe and many more!!

If you believe in democracy then you must stand against this as it threatens everything about our life in this country!

RESIST the Government in its attempts to crush democracy!!!!!

Still no clear legistlation on the Police keeping DNA of Innocent people!

Posted by chromeneo on Thursday 20 November 08

The House of Commons have rejected an amendment to the Counter-Terrorism Bill which would have made it possible for an innocent person to have their DNA and fingerprints permanently removed from the national database.

Their excuse for overturning this is the fact that some cases have been solved by using DNA on file.  But what they also forget that if your DNA is on file AND you have not been charged the they are still TREATING YOU AS A CRIMINAL!!!  This country is fast becoming a CLOSED, NON DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY, where such once cherished qualities as freedom of speech, Innocent until proven guilty, and the right to privacy have, in the last year especially, been attacked by the very heart of our country: THE GOVERNMENT.

People must wake up and realise that this country which we pride ourselves on being one of the most free and democratic countries in the world, is turning into one more akin to CHINA!!

The Government are their to do our bidding, not to come up with ways of controlling the masses!!

People we must stand up against this and RESIST these draconian intrusions into our British way of life.

I do not have any problem with the Police having more tools to fight crime, but not at the expense of our civil liberties. What happened to good old fashioned INVESTIGATION!

Stop this and lets stop it now, write to your MP and tell them you are not happy with these government controls and intrusions!

RESIST the Governments attempts to control us!

Posted by chromeneo on Thursday 6 November 08

Resist Government Intrusion

People of the UK need to WAKE UP! This government are planning many ways in which they will control us!  Soon there will be a database which will record all details of your internet browsing, store all emails sent by everyone, log all phone calls and finally keep all text messages for 2 years! This is happening with the new government bill, The Communications Bill.

This cannot and should not happen!  At which point did people in the UK stop caring about our freedoms!  People listen and act now! Resist the governments plans for this diabolical intrusion into privacy by campaigning against this.

You can either, join a local group of NO2ID, or another group such as Liberty or Open Rights group, or check out their website, write a letter to your MP.  Here is a draft copy of a letter that you could use, or you could write your own or modify this one.

Whatever you do, I implore you all, please do SOMETHING.  We as a public body must stand up against this government, who are systematically stripping this country and its people of our civil liberties.

To the argument that a lot of people use, that if you have nothing to fear, then you have nothing to hide, I say this.  It is not about having anything to hide but it is about our democratic right to be whoever we are and to do whatever we want without being watched or tracked. People in this country for many years have fought battles and many have died to create a free society in which its citizens feel free and have rights and privacy.  These qualities have become part of the Human Rights Act, and it is exactly these rights which the government are removing.

Again I say to everyone, make a stand against these government acts. Do something.  Blog about it, read up about it and use the graphic at the top of this page to post in blogs and websites.

Lets make a stand before it is too late because when these things are in place they will be difficult to remove.

Eroded Freedoms

Posted by chromeneo on Sunday 26 October 08

This is a piece written by my mother and it really encapsulates what is wrong with our society and the government better than I could ever put it.

We believe we live in a free society. What is this? I believe that it is something that has been cultivated through many years. People are educated to take on the responsibility and to act considering other people’s needs and welfare otherwise how can we live together.

Freedom means that we are entrusted with this and expected to behave with in this frame work. There are risks to this system as some people will never fit in to this model but if you want freedom they are the risks we take.

Over these years these values have been eroded. People were taught the selfish and greedy attitude to business was healthy, this overflowed in to other areas. People could not be trusted to do the jobs they were trained in and had to be monitored with that came less goodwill. Goodwill is not profitable. People started to be treated as a product.

There was more and more control because now they had the technology.

Then the Government started the banning phase and they started with something most people would agree with. The “smoking ban”. I have never smoked and was just as keen to have clean air as every one else but it was a bit over the top and yet the majority agreed. One choice of ours not denied but made to be almost underground.

So where do they stop in controlling our decisions in a free society.

It seems they do not trust any of us. Are they paranoid?

It now is so bad that they want to put us all on a Database and be able to read our emails and listen to phone calls.

Are we still a free society? May be but not for long if we do not stop this insidious attack on our freedoms.

More time should be spent on teaching us what a free society entails and how we all have to work for it and the good of the whole and the lessons should start with the members of parliament. May be it is because they can not trust each other that they think we are all the same.

Will people stand up for themselves and fight to change this attitude and these unwanted Bills or will we wallow in a sea of apathy happy with all our consumer goods. Maybe the so called recession will make some people think. I do hope that not too many of us will suffer.

This sums up everything that I have been saying here and believe is happening in this country.

I have found another website which is along the same theme as this one.  www.power-to-the-people.co.uk

Heavy Handed Police (yet again!!)

Posted by chromeneo on Wednesday 9 July 08

This is the news that a local musician, Nzube Udezue, was confronted and arrested by 8 fully armed Special Force Police officers, all pointing rifles at him.

He was mistaken for another person who had threatened someone with a firearm. Nzube sort of matched his description, i.e. he was black and had a similar colour t-shirt on!

This is just crazy! How can the police get away with pointing guns at everyone they consider a suspect! It is yet another indication that this country is already very much a police state where fear rules!
